Parkside Link Road / Parkside Colliery, Newton-le-Willows

The Project

The project is new 3.4km single carriageway road linking A49 Winwick Road with A579 Winwick Lane. Works include junction improvements and vehicle containment upgrade of the existing Parkside Road bridge over the M6.

What we did

Part of the new link road passes over the redundant Parkside Colliery which imposed two main constraints regarding the phasing and distribution of material. The first relates to material that can only be re-used within the Colliery area. The volume of material that had to remain within the Colliery area was circa 18,000m3 of 25,000m3 total material required in this location.
